Today our little family worked outside all morning.
First, Adam trimmed the low hanging branches on a few of the trees.
Then, we cleared the sticker bushes on the east side of our house. One of us would knock them away with the shovel and the other raked them into a pile to load into the wheelbarrow. Charlotte wanted to help rake. She tripped and landed on a tine, and now has a welt on her lower back and bum. Thankfully it didn't break any skin or rip any clothes.
We dug up and relocated a tree that had sprung up in front of our porch. Turns out that it was actually a runner from a tree on the side of the house. It didn't have much of a root system of it's own, so I don't know if it will make it or not. All we can do is keep it watered and see.
Next we pulled grass that was growing up through the gravel driveway. There is something satisfying about pulling a plant out, roots and all. The goats enjoyed the wheelbarrow full of grass, but not as much as they enjoyed the trimmings from the trees. We loaded up Pake's small pickup truck twice with leafy branches. The goats stampeded over when we dropped off the first load, and by the time we had returned with the second load, they had nearly picked those branches clean!
Speaking of goats, there are now THIRTEEN babies out there, most of them twins.
