Barnyard Babies

The neighbors in front of Pake and Beppe's house have a flock of goats. DSC04130
The past week or so there have been many new arrivals. Three sets of twins, and one singleton. So many babies, and there are at least two more pregnant nannies out there.

One set of twins was rejected by their mother. I'm no goat expert, but I noticed that the babies tend to stick close to their mama. These ones were different. The nanny goat stood in a corner of the field, back to the rest of the flock, while the babies wandered almost aimlessly. The neighbor's wife tried to see if one of the other new mothers would let them nurse. No go. They are now being bottle fed by hand.

The most recent set to be born had one runt, but fortunately they appeared to bond properly. That mama and her babies are in a separate pen for now.

Charlotte now expects this to be a daily routine. "Baby sheep?" she asked when she first woke up this morning.
